On Monday night a small group of passionate fashionistas gathered in a warm, brightly lit basement below The Causeway, Melbourne. They were there to witness the unveiling of a new fashion hub with a difference – The Cause.
The Cause hosts a beautiful retail store and fully operational clothing production workshop, both open to the public. This new space makes ethical, sustainable on-shore clothing production a realistic option for small-scale Melbourne designers and brings the fashion supply chain out from the shadows. Customers of The Cause can start to truly connect with the story and the impact behind their clothes when they explore the production space and meet the people who make their clothes.
Along with the in-house brands of The Cause and New Model Beauty Queen, there are many other beautiful and unique Ethical Clothing Australia (ECA) accredited brands available at The Cause. Guests to launch party were thrilled to see a range of bold, exciting clothing exhibited down the runway. The Cause offers a perfect balance of unique signature pieces and classic everyday staples.
Dale Cornell, co-owner of The Cause, has said that “sustainability is an essential evolution for the future of fashion,” and we couldn’t agree more! Ethical fashion has been a hot topic for four CSL Fellows who are currently designing RE.VALUE – an online program that helps you restructure your wardrobe so that it reflects your style and your values.
