Victoria Phantharangsi
Business & Engagement Partner, University of New South Wales2017 Sydney Fellowship
The Fellowship helped deliver the first threads to weaving the rich tapestry of my "Why”.
What was the most valuable thing you got out of the program?
An expanse of space to think, act and be.
Why are you passionate about sustainability? What was the moment or event that made you decide to become a ‘change maker’ in your field?
My passion for sustainability comes from the richness of human experience and the rapid transformation of global politics, economics and technology.
The environment, like time, belongs to us only insofar as we are custodians of it. I hence recognise my personal responsibility as a global citizen to protect, nurture, ensure its regeneration and sustainable growth.
How did the program play a role in directing your current path or project?
CSL facilitated the interrogation of my values, but it also gave me the space to be held, gently, as I am in this very moment. The Fellowship helped deliver the first threads to weaving the rich tapestry of my "Why”.
In 25 words or less, tell us why leadership for sustainability is important.
As a society, we've given our power away to constructs that imprison us in our own ego. Leadership for sustainability pushes each individual out of their own lot to recognise that they can't live nor lead alone and that nothing exists in a vacuum of itself.
What do you plan to do next on your sustainability journey?
I'm training to become a clinical psychologist. My first degree was in History and Political Science and my career so far has stretched across various sectors such as advertising, marketing, financial services and technology. The mainstay of all of this has been my interest, amongst other things, in stories and power.
I don't know what the future looks like yet, but it feels like an energetic synthesis of all these things planted atop a solid foundation, whose dimensions are clearer and more vibrant thanks to CSL.
What are three words you would use to describe the Program?
Paradigm shifting supernova
