The confidence to find the work I love

Why are you passionate about sustainability?

I'm passionate about (re) connecting people with nature. I think this is important for our own physical, social and mental well-being. But I also believe that people are more likely to make better choices for the world if they are more in touch with the natural environment and can see the impact of their actions. For me personally joining Intrepid Landcare in my early 20s helped me re-connect with nature, and other people who care about it. The trips I went on with this group changed my life and I want to be able to offer that opportunity to others.

How did CSL play a role in directing your current path or project?

In hindsight I came into CSL with a strong sense of the change I wanted to make in the world. CSL helped me articulate my vision, believe in it, and believe in my own ability to make it happen. It gave me the nudge I needed to get things going, but also the community and support network to lean back on if and when I failed, and the confidence to be okay with that.

Why is sustainability leadership important?

Leadership in sustainability - like in any field - is important as we would not move forward without the people at the front pushing the boundaries and being the early adopters. I think it's really important that we encourage these leaders to find their passion and support them to follow it. Passion is an amazing motivator, giving leaders the energy to push forward and the power to inspire the rest of us to follow.

What do you plan to do next on your sustainability journey?

I'm hoping to bring the Intrepid Landcare model to Victoria to give young people here the same opportunity I had to connect with nature and a community of like minded people.
