'Don't let Ambition get in the way of Passion'

LinkedIn

What was the most valuable thing you got out of CSL?

Space and confidence to explore how I wanted to align my life fully with my passions and purpose.

Why are you passionate about sustainability? What was the moment or event that made you decide to become a ‘change maker’ in your field?

Sustainability is critical to stem the ongoing loss of species and ecosystems. Without understanding and implementing sustainability measures, then the human race will continue its heavy burden on the planet. People need to understand that the earth is not just here for humans to enjoy, and that all species have intrinsic value, and a right to a healthy life.

How did CSL play a role in directing your current path or project?

CSL helped me to uncover some hidden truths about how I really wanted to live my life, to take a risk. A fellow CSLer said 'don't let ambition get in the way of passion' - this is such an important idea as I had to let go of the concept that a career should be in an upwards trajectory. Learning to be honest with myself, and having the confidence to put myself out there, led me to a position within Animals Australia - my dream organisation to work for, for 15 years. I came into the course with a strong sense of purpose, and finished the course aligning my life 100% with this purpose.

Why leadership for sustainability is important?

For an idea/concept/cause to be successful, it needs a passionate leader. Fighting for a cause can be painstaking and heartbreaking - it is critical to have a strong leader at the helm of the ship to guide others.

What do you plan to do next on your sustainability journey?

I plan on continuing my work with animal welfare and rescue. To enjoy the work that I do and to step back and appreciate my own efforts and accomplishments.

What are three words you would use to describe the Fellowship Program?

Challenging, motivating, inspiring
