I learnt that I can be a force of nature, and how to go about it
What was the most valuable thing you got out of the program?
I learnt that I can be a force of nature, and how to go about it
Why are you passionate about sustainability? What was the moment or event that made you decide to become a ‘change maker’ in your field?
I love the beautiful world that we live in, and enjoy nothing more than spending time in nature. I am passionate about the work that I do in sustainability because it is having a real, tangible outcome - we are reducing our emissions, restoring our resources, empowering people and, doing all of this in a progressive way. I love it because it is creating change for the better.
The moment I decided to do something, was the moment that I realised that I could.
How did the program play a role in directing your current path or project?
CSL gave me the skills I required to push beyond my present state, and to become the person I wanted to be, where I actively take a stand for the causes I care about. I took away many lessons, but the following five have been transformational in helping me stick to my path:
1. I can get things done, I just need to start. Asking myself 'how easy could this be?' really helps.
2. I need to choose my commitments wisely to fit my vision
3. Build a tribe, and a diverse one. There are a lot of other people trying to do good things, and they want you to succeed.
4. Have 'me' time, but don't be selfish with it
5. Have faith in yourself!
Why leadership for sustainability is important?
It takes leaders - those that stand up the front of the room, those who lead from behind and those who create change in their own lives - to keep progressing forward.
What do you plan to do next on your sustainability journey?
The next step is to keep going and keep pushing, and to proactively deliver extraordinary value. I will continue to work on groundbreaking projects at Frasers Property, push the boundaries within my local Council, build a community for a better built environment and enable young leaders to also change the world.
What are three words you would use to describe the Program?
Nourishing, uplifting and inciting
