It's crucial to take time in working out your values & learning to make them transferable anywhere!
What was the most valuable thing you got out of the Future Makers Fellowship?
That it's crucial to take time in working out your values & learning to make them transferable anywhere!
Why are you passionate about sustainability? What was the moment or event that made you decide to become a ‘change maker’ in your field?
I can't say I walked into this course passionate about sustainability, but it certainly opened up my eyes to the reality of waste and over-consumption. I was fortunate to meet some incredible people that are living and being in the world in a way that's quite conscientious. That has inspired me to think about my own impact on the earth and others. I've also learned that sustainability isn't simply about the natural environment. Through the Future Makers Fellowship, I spent a few weeks working on an initiative addressing homelessness, which opened me up to all sorts of broader issues and people I would never have been exposed to had I not done this fellowship.
How did the Future Makers Fellowship play a role in directing your current path or project?
It's helping me to be more deliberate in the sort of projects I'm taking on. It's taught me to focus on personal sustainability and to say 'no' to a lot of things, that's freed me up to focus on the things I truly love. It's helped me hone in on my personal values and strengths and put them to better use.
Why leadership for sustainability is important?
'Business as usual' will take us off the cliff. Need leadership that asks 'is this really the best way?' That's the only way our species can continue to improve.
What do you plan to do next on your sustainability journey?
Watch this space.
What are three words you would use to describe the Fellowship Program?
Raw, unorthodox and necessary.
