CSL has given me a yes, optimistic, this is possible attitude
What was the most valuable thing you got out of CSL?
CSL has allowed me to shift the feeling of isolation/feeling like you are taking on the world all by yourself and made me realise I am one part of a much larger movement and network of great minds and energy. It has provided me with the confidence to really explore my options and to mould a vision into a mission. It is pushing to step up, take more risks and get involved and put myself out there. It has provided me with skills that I need during this time and that will support me into the future. It has given me a yes, optimistic, this is possible attitude and genuineĀ feeling of support and nourishment.
Why are you passionate about sustainability? What was the moment or event that made you decide to become a 'change maker' in your field?
For as long as I can remember, I have felt a need to 'save the world.' That feeling has taken me along many pathways over the years - inspiring me to travel, explore, talk with many people, visit many landscapes, trial and evolve closer toward an intersection where I can work, and have the greatest impact possible. I didn't experience a pivotal moment that became a call to action, I just never felt there was anything else worth doing, or that I had a choice not to act. But some important moments/events might be: key conversations with friends and strangers around the world, spending time in Country around Australia, falling in love with the diversity and richness of cultures around the world, (esp South America & Cuba), growing up visiting black sand New Zealand beaches and spending hours by myself racing boats on the sea. I am passionate about 'sustainability' or - 'restoration and infinite security of the health and balance within our Biosphere, as is it's natural design and condition' because it is my responsibility as a human living on this planet. I feel the hurt, destruction and ill-health that our natural environment feels and so in feeling that pain, it is a natural reaction to need to heal it.
Why is leadership for sustainability is important?
As human civilization transitions to a new way of living, we require genuine leaders to drive and steward the transition - without which, we may fail.
What do you plan to do next on your sustainability journey?
For the time being, continue working part-time within the not-for-profit organisation that I am currently working at. Try to utilise my role and tasks here for professional development. Research different organisations and who is doing what and where within Australia - to see where I may better fit. Possibly continue to apply for new jobs. Explore creating my own job. Gather more knowledge about relevant history, movements and the current state of the areas I am interested in. Up-skill in come identified areas and continue working on my CSL goals.
