'CSL has strengthened my sense of direction and exposed me to new ideas."
What was the most valuable thing you got out of CSL?
I enjoyed hearing from a diverse range of speakers on topics relating to sustainability and leadership.
Why are you passionate about sustainability? What was the moment or event that made you decide to become a ‘change maker’ in your field?
I grew up on the fringes of Melbourne where the tensions between preserving our beautiful natural environment and the need to accommodate our growing population were ever-present. Travel and study opened my eyes to the importance of sustainability in the broader sense, incorporating issues like social justice as well as environmental protection. I became increasingly frustrated with Australia's action (and inaction) on issues like climate change and asylum seekers and this prompted me to seek out ways to become involved in building a better, sustainable future.
How did CSL play a role in directing your current path or project?
CSL has strengthened my sense of direction and exposed me to new ideas and inspiring people.
why leadership for sustainability is important?
We need to counter the forces that led to Trump being elected president of the US, minimise the damage and create a momentum for change.
What do you plan to do next on your sustainability journey?
I want to continue to build on and apply my skills sustainability. In my job at Ironbark, that involves helping councils take effective action to reduce their community's environmental footprint. I also want to stay involved in my local community and actively campaign for a better world.
What are three words you would use to describe the Fellowship Program?
Inspiring, reflective, unconventional
