Becoming a leader inspires others to see that there are alternatives
What was the most valuable thing you got out of CSL?
Confidence
Why are you passionate about sustainability? What was the moment or event that made you decide to become a 'change maker' in your field?
I am passionate about sustainability because my body, mind and soul call for it. My body needs to be well fed, moved and stretched for its strength and long term health. My mind needs to be creative and collaborative with others. My soul needs to feel peace and do what is right and necessary for the world. The start of my sustainability journey was when my Italian partner asked me to tell her about Indigenous Australian cultures. I did not have a satisfactory answer, so in the last few years we travelled, worked and volunteered in some very remote regions of Australia. This brought us an experience of the deep relationship that our Indigenous Australians have with their natural world and woke me up to my own culture's dangerous disconnection with the natural world. I used to be someone that knew the world was f**cked but didn't care. It took a real experience to jolt me out of this trance. Now I know, care and act.
Why is leadership for sustainability is important?
We often feel the problems of our culture but do not know what to do about it. Becoming a leader inspires others to see that there are alternatives.
What do you plan to do next on your sustainability journey?
Spend some more time reflecting on my core purpose and collaborating with my loved ones
