Glenda

I knew that I wanted to work in sustainability and CSL helped me crystallize my future career direction

What was the most valuable thing you got out of CSL?

The CSL course helped me break down many barriers which I didn't even realise were holding me back from achieving my personal goal to work in sustainability.

Why are you passionate about sustainability?

I have always felt a connection to nature. This became more acute when I was pregnant with my first child. It made me very aware of my own body but also the impact that society has on our natural surroundings.

I want to preserve what we have and also enhance it for future generations. I love education and sharing this passion with my family, my friends and others.

How did CSL play a role in directing your current path or project?

Through my corporate background, I have developed my project management, and strategic planning skills. I knew before starting the course that I wanted to work in sustainability and this CSL course helped me crystallize my future career direction. This was by talking to my fellow students working in a variety of roles, and the amazing experience tutors and also further nurturing my self-curiosity.

Why is leadership for sustainability so important?

Leadership drives creative change. An inspiring leader will have an infectious ability to encourage a team to contribute, challenge beliefs and consider possibilities.

What do you plan to do next on your sustainability journey?

Since the CSL course, I am thrilled that I have found roles to drive positive sustainability-related change in my local community; Western Sydney Client Liaison & Project Manager for Ironbark Sustainability and also community representative on Blacktown City Council's Environment Advisory Committee.

Both of these are great opportunities to learn a develop my skill set further, and grow my confidence as a leader for sustainability.

What are three words you would use to describe the Fellowship Program?

Simply life changing.
