CSL provided me with insight, tools and a network around the various elements of sustainability; personal, environmental, social

What was the most valuable thing you got out of CSL?

Creating a sustainable world is a personal journey and through CSL I have a network of legends to go on that journey with.

Why are you passionate about sustainability? What was the moment or event that made you decide to become a ‘change maker’ in your field?

In uni, a designer from Philips presented a case study about developing a cook stove for users at the bottom of the pyramid. It was the moment I realised that as a designer you have a responsibility to consciously think about the products and services you put out into the world. Also, it made me realise the influence big businesses have, and thus the potential to positively contribute to social impact.

How did CSL play a role in directing your current path or project?

CSL provided me with insight, tools and a network around the various elements of sustainability; personal, environmental, social, etc. My epiphany was when I realised that for everybody in this space, creating a sustainable world, are on a journey - it's not an end point involving the ultimate job or flawless habits in a perfect society.

In 25 words or less, tell us why leadership for sustainability is important.

The change we need in the world - concerning our ways of thinking and doing, as well as how business and systems are designed - are complex, scary and confusing. There's an important role for leaders to make the change simple and appealing.

What do you plan to do next on your sustainability journey?

I will continue to build my skills as a designer, growing my ability to create social impact on a larger scale. In the process, I will ensure my personal sustainability, and continue to connect with like-minded people with similar dreams, goals and worldviews.

What are three words you would use to describe the Fellowship Program?

Enriching, Future Life, Challenging
