"...although I needed to still earn an income I also needed to align that need with my values."
I learnt that the experience and skills I took for granted were unique & could help others.
A close friend had a cancer scare and I started looking into their diet with them as one of many medicinal options to get better. The more I looked the more I noticed the unfairness inherent in moderns systems of food production and supply. That and the complete disconnect between multiple societal issues and the way we had disconnected with our food supply. That was the trigger point for me to start considering the concept of sustainability. From there I knew that although I needed to still earn an income I also needed to align that need with my values. And it made sense to leverage my skills and experience in the corporate world to do that.
It helped me bring a passionate tone to my corporate voice. I've become more creative in the way I think solutions to problems and it helped me find joy, lightness and to see the positive in many situations. I can't say it helped direct my career path but it did help me get much better at the one I was on.
We need people to focus on the piece of the sustainability puzzle that drives them and collectively the picture of a sustainable world will appear
My next journey is for my personal sustainability. In July my wife and I will continue to travel and experience different cultures and rekindle relationships with distant friends and families. We use house sitting, workaway & occasionally couch surfing to keep our costs down, but primarily to force ourselves into new and interesting situations.
Challenging, Fun, Affirming
