Alina Tamrakar
Resource Recovery Engagement Officer, Cumberland Council2016 Leaders for Sustainability Program - GWS
After the birth of my first child, my feeling and passion to protect the environment for future generations grew stronger than ever.
What was the most valuable thing you got out of CSL?
I got inspiration and confidence to create change in my workplace and community.
Why are you passionate about sustainability?
Since the past 15 years, I have been communicating the message about sustainability to the wider community through education, engagement, and action.
Sustainability education develops skills and knowledge that stimulate behaviour change in support of the sustainable environment. I realised that education is required at all levels, be it schools, community or households. My aim has been to encourage people to embrace a sustainable lifestyle that could easily be achieved by making sensible choices, conscious decisions and understanding the impact of our lifestyle on the environment.
After the birth of my first child, my feeling and passion to protect the environment for future generations grew stronger than ever.
How did CSL play a role in directing your current path or project?
CSL helped to make my connection with sustainability more deeper and meaningful by connecting me with the wider tribe of my type. It has equipped me with more knowledge, skill and ideas that also align with my passion.
Why is leadership for sustainability so important?
We can't just sit and complain about the sustainability issues we are facing. There has to be a strong and genuine leadership to help make that change happen.
What do you plan to do next on your sustainability journey?
Going forward I would like to develop a holistic program on social responsibility and sustainability to cater for schools and the community to help achieve their sustainability goals.
What are three words you would use to describe the Fellowship Program?
Insightful, Stimulating and Engaging
