Just Transitions Action Group2015 August Intensive Fellowship

I got a boost of inspiration, confidence, clarity and direction at the right time!

What was the most valuable thing you got out of CSL?

I got a boost of inspiration, confidence, clarity and direction at the right time!

Why are you passionate about sustainability? What was the moment or event that made you decide to become a ‘change maker’ in your field?

At sweet 16 I remember walking out of a cinema when my whole high school had been taken to see Al Gore’s ‘Inconvenient Truth’, my eyes were full of tears. I learnt about the damage coal, oil, gas and other greenhouse gas emissions sources were doing to our planet, to my generations future. I learnt that the solutions were all there ready and waiting if it were not for the crisis in political leadership that was holding us back. I had always known that we needed to be sustainable but never had I felt the magnitude and severity of the situation hit me so strongly.

How did CSL play a role in directing your current path or project?

I am truly grateful to the CSL program and the privilege I have had for being able to participate in it. It has given me so much gratitude for where I am in my life right now. During the final retreat I improved my ability to communicate with strength, professionalism, clarity and class. This will be a journey that I will continue as I get more opportunities to practice it. As I get more opportunities I know one of the most important things is that I remember to reflect upon and remember the lessons that I learnt at CSL. I have had the experiences that will allow the words of wisdom from my CSL cohort flow with meaning and truth into my practices.

In 25 words or less, tell us why leadership for sustainability is important.

Leadership for sustainability is the responsibility we have for living on this planet. This is my mantra. 'Bravely hole your heart full of hope for in this hope is your honour for your earth mother. In this hope is the love that you give back to the world in thanks for all the love that you have received.' This is why I am a leader.

What do you plan to do next on your sustainability journey?

  • Formulate a strong self marketing strategy and work portfolio to use in jobs and funding applications
  • Research and develop plans for jobs to apply for and projects to learn about
  • Actively write & reflect on my travelling experiences
  • Do online courses to supplement my skills and employability in key areas that need development
  • Monitor and plan out possible career strategies based on futurist theories and insights
  • Build a solid website and blog upon which I want to write once per month or more to get my ideas out there
  • Obtain mentoring from some of my strong role models
  • Do some research and make some ethical financial investments in companies and cooperatives
  • Develop my career strategies and plans for next steps in the Just Transition’s and New Economy sectors.

What are three words you would use to describe the Fellowship Program?

Empowering, orienting, transformative
